TESTIMONIALS
We loved our tour of the Midway! Cannot wait to go back and see what we missed. So much history and we really appreciated the historians that gave their stories. We really enjoyed it!
Step in to enjoy history and to appreciate and reflect on the sacrifice our servicemen made in Times past for this great country. I could spend hours, or days on this ship. It’s just so massive and every corner has a story to tell. I’ll surely go back again soon. Be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours here, 3 hours was not nearly enough.
We went with our 3 children (12 10 and 8) the information desk gives a pamphlet to "earn your junior wings" keeps the kids occupied for a while - we were there for 4 hours! At the end the girls went to get their wings and a Pilot from WW2 just happened to be there and presented them ! Highlight of their day! Also they were showing Top Gun on their Top deck that night - we did not go but how cool! They often have activities we were told.
If you go to San Diego the USS Midway a must see attraction! Make sure you give yourself enough time to tour and listen to the amazing volunteers tell their stories. It was a great day-wish we had more time!
May your luck be stronger than the mightiest wave! 🍀 Happy St. Patrick`s Day from all of us at the USS Midway Museum! 🍀 #StPatricksDay #NavyLuck #aircraftcarrier

Congrats to Midway`s February Volunteer of the Month, Jose Castillo!
Since joining Midway team in June 2022, Jose has been an important, dedicated team member. This past year, he has supported Midway as a Group Projects Host, and has welcomed 150 volunteer groups, providing us with 3,000+ participants to assist us in every way imaginable.
Supporting the management of these Group Projects, Jose welcomes volunteers at the base of Brow 5, takes attendance, and instructs them on the work they will perform. Then, Jose prepares and awards individual letters of appreciation to every participant.
Before Midway, Jose served in the U.S. Navy from 1974-1994 and worked as a Department of Defense police Officer from 1996-2017.
To all young women, keep dreaming, exploring, and embracing every opportunity that comes your way. The world is waiting for your brilliance. Happy Women’s Day!

Welcome to Midway’s 20th Anniversary Then & Now photo series 📸 highlighting Midway’s magical transformation from the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century to the world’s most-visited historic naval ship museum. #Midway20 #ussmidwaymuseum
Every month, we’ll show an area of the ship as it looked when it first arrived pre-restored at Navy Pier in 2004, compared to how it looks today, in 2024.
We’ll start with Midway`s Hangar Deck.
📸(Photos 1-4) THEN: Hangar Bay 1, where naval aircraft were securely stored. NOW: The museum’s entrance, home of the Battle of Midway Theater, interactive exhibits, and meticulously restored vintage World War II aircraft.
📸(Photos 5-6) THEN: The Jet Shop in Hangar Bay 2, where sailors constructed jet engines. NOW: the museum’s Jet Shop (gift shop) with apparel, souvenirs, and more!
📸(Photos 7-8) THEN: Midway’s Engine Test Cell on the Fantail – where sailors once repaired jet engines. NOW: The museum’s Café 41, where guests can enjoy a meal.

Happy Bday Top Gun! ✈️🇺🇸✨
On March 3, 1969, the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world.
Today, the Navy calls it Fighter Weapons School. The flyers call it: TOP GUN.

Did you know it wasn’t until 1974 that the first female pilot in the U.S. armed forces received her Wings of Gold as the first female to be designated a Naval aviator? And another 20 years until women were permitted to serve on Navy combatant ships in 1993?
Now, women serve their country in every Navy rank from seaman to admiral and in every job from pilot to submariner. Women in naval aviation fly combat missions and command squadrons, air wings, naval air stations, and operational fleets.
During Women’s History Month, join us in celebrating the courageous and honorable women who serve/have served in our military.
